On September 27, 2011, Shanxi Province held a grand ceremony for the signing of projects by large and medium-sized enterprises at the Jinci Hotel in Taiyuan. During the ceremony, several large-scale coal chemical projects were signed. Jinmei Group has signed a cooperation agreement with the American company ExxonMobil to carry out a project aimed at introducing technology for the \"1 million tons per year MTG (methanol-to-gasoline) process\", which will enable the production of 1 million tons per year of coal-based methanol as well as methanol-derived fuels. The \"15 million tons per year coal coking circular economy park project of Shanxi Coking Coal Group Wulin Coal and Coke Development Co., Ltd,\" jointly developed by Coking Coal Group and Shanghai Fosun High-Tech (Group) Co., Ltd., has a total investment of 27 billion yuan. Once completed, it will have the capacity to produce 15 million tons of coked products per year, as well as 1.5 million tons of methanol, 600,000 tons of olefins, 600,000 tons of tar, and 200,000 tons of benzene via hydrogenation. The “Clean Utilization of Low-Quality Coal Project”, developed in collaboration between International Power and ERG Company, is located in Yicheng, Linfen. With a total investment of 11 billion yuan, it will have an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of gasoline as well as 400 MW of gas-powered electricity generation capacity.
