How to switch between mechanical pumps, and what tasks need to be carried out before maintaining a mechanical pump? Seeking advice
Switching of the centrifugal pump: (1) Contact the relevant personnel to prepare for switching the pump. (2) Prepare the standby pump for startup: open the inlet valve of the pump to fill it with liquid, then open the vent valve to release pressure, and close the vent valve after venting. (3) Start the standby pump; after the motor has been running for 1–2 minutes, check the outlet pressure. Once the current is within normal levels, slowly open the pump’s outlet valve. (4) When opening the outlet valve of the standby pump, gradually close the outlet valve of the pump that is currently in operation, in order to minimize fluctuations in flow rate and pressure. (5) Once the standby pump is operating properly, shut down the originally running pump. (6) In an emergency, the operating pump can be stopped first, followed by starting the backup pump.
Agree with what was said above; to add, it’s essential to ensure that the outlet pressures of the two pumps are the same. Especially some pumps come with frequency converters!
I agree with the procedures outlined on the first floor. However, I would like to remind that before starting the backup pump, it is essential to ensure that the valve on the return line is opened, and to pay attention to the opening degree of that valve (for valves equipped with flow control orifice plates, the valve must be fully open). This is especially important when switching between pumps, in order to prevent damage to the pumps
One more thing: be sure to coordinate well with the operator during the switchover. Prevent large fluctuations
Don’t forget to check the oil level, supply seal water, and operate the pump.
Communication between internal and external parties during pump switching is very important! When performing outdoor operations, avoid rapid opening and closing! It can cause fluctuations in quantity, leading to overcurrent risks, damaging the mechanical seal and increasing maintenance costs
