Shenhua Baotou’s MTO-grade methanol production exceeds one million tons

On September 6, 2011, the MTO-grade methanol production capacity of the Methanol Center at Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical Branch reached 1.00923 million tons per year, surpassing the 1-million-ton mark and setting a new record for the annual output of this methanol production facility. The methanol plant at Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical Branch, designed for MTO production, has an annual methanol output of 1.8 million tons, making it the largest methanol production facility in the world at present. It uses coal as the main raw material, employing the GE coal water slurry gasification technology, shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing, and the DAVY two-column methanol synthesis process. The methanol plant was successfully commissioned on December 31, 2009, and on July 3, 2010, it started up successfully and produced methanol of MTO grade that met the required standards.
