What is the typical design service life for ordinary storage tanks? What are the regulations and standards in place?
It is generally designed for a period of 10–15 years; 10 years can be used as a reference. It is defined in SH/T3074 and can be used as a reference.
The following is excerpted from the interpretation of the Code for Acceptance: The design client shall specify the expected service life in accordance with the requirements of Code 3.3(4). The designer should consult with the client who commissioned the design in order to determine the design service life of the pressure vessel, based on its operating conditions, material selection, safety considerations, and economic feasibility. Clause 6.10 of the code considers a pressure vessel for which no design service life is specified to be beyond its service life if that period exceeds 20 years. So, if there are no other requirements, can 20 years be used as the design life?
For ordinary containers, 10 years is sufficient, while for heat exchangers, 15 years is generally appropriate; these are just reference values! Not a standard for final cancellation!
The service life of a regular storage tank is 14 years!

The design service life of storage tanks at normal pressure isn’t that important; as long as they pass regular inspections, they can continue to be used. With proper internal anti-corrosion measures in place, such tanks can be used for a very long time. Our organization has storage tanks that are already 50 years old, and they passed the inspection last year without any issues. .

In accordance with GB150, the design life of pressure vessels is generally 10–15 years. If it has exceeded its service life, it needs to be rechecked before a new determination can be made! For non-pressure vessels, as long as the strength and corrosion margin are sufficient, there is basically no time limit!
