Our plant has been calculating its coke production theoretically based on coal consumption and volatile matter, with a coal-to-coke ratio of around 1.35. By visiting other coking plants, it can be seen that the volatil content of the coal used in their furnaces is about 3 percentage points higher than ours, yet their specific consumption is only around 1.3. Is it our method for calculating coke production that is wrong?
It’s not necessarily a calculation error. Our company has information on over a hundred different types of coal; the corresponding values generally fall between 1.3 and 1.42. Since the types of coal used in various factories differ, as do the control methods applied in different stages of coking, and the requirements for the final products also vary, it’s normal for there to be differences in the numbers. Of course, this is just my personal opinion and may not be authoritative.
It’s not possible to simply rely on theory for calculations, let alone if that theory is widely recognized
Is your calculation formula consistent with the benchmarks used by other manufacturers? Some manufacturers use a combustion-based basis, while others use a dry-based basis; you can check this aspect!
