Who has information on bactericidal and algaecidal agents? Is chlorine dioxide the most commonly used one?
Fungicides are generally divided into two types: oxidizing fungicides and non-oxidizing fungicides. Oxidizing agents: Chlorine-based disinfectants such as chlorine dioxide, sodium hypochlorite, and liquid chlorine, as well as hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate, iodine, ozone, etc., are generally strong oxidizers. They can oxidize the enzymes involved in metabolic processes within microorganisms, thereby killing those microorganisms. Non-oxidizing types: Non-oxidizing biocides and algaecides do not kill microorganisms through oxidation; instead, they act by poisoning specific parts of the microorganisms, and as a result, they are not affected by reducing substances in water. Non-oxidizing biocides and algaecides have a certain degree of persistence in their killing effect; they can penetrate and remove sediment or sludge, are less affected by reducing substances such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, and are also less influenced by the pH level of the water. However, the treatment costs are relatively high compared to oxidizing bactericidal and algaecidal agents, and it can easily cause environmental pollution; moreover, microorganisms in water tend to develop resistance to these agents. Commonly used non-oxidizing bactericidal and algaecidal agents include the following: dichlorophenol, dioxycyanomethane, isothiazolinones, lauryl benzyl ammonium chloride (1227, benzalkonium chloride, chlorhexidine), lauryl dimethyl benzyl ammonium bromide (benzalkonium bromide, hexachlorophene) 등. In practical applications, non-oxidizing bactericides are continuously added, while oxidizing bactericides are added periodically in a shock dose. Combining them in this way works very well.
