Vanadium is used in steel because it can form stable carbon compounds (V4C3) with the carbon elements in steel; this allows it to refine the structure and grain size of the steel, as well as raise the temperature at which grain growth occurs. It significantly improves the properties of steel. It can enhance the strength, toughness, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and ability to withstand impact loads of steel. In pressure pipelines, elbows, reducers, and weld seams are generally areas where stress is concentrated. Therefore, it is generally higher in terms of material and pressure rating than pipes. Because 15CrMnV has higher strength than 15CrMn. Take note that 15CrMnV is also commonly used for welding materials.
