This post was last edited by hesonchang214 on 2011-10-24 17:01. Is the concentration high? Alcohol is a readily biodegradable organic pollutant, but high concentrations can affect microbial activity. It can be treated directly using the aerobic (aeration) process, but care must be taken to add nitrogen and phosphorus sources!

What are the concentrations of potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus? What’s the COD? Is there anything else? I need to make it clear

Reply to 7# wyq7826275: The quality of the raw water and the standards for the treated water are not clear; it’s too early to discuss the processing methods. Ethanol is readily biodegradable, but are there any other COD components? The concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus determine whether denitrification and phosphorus removal are necessary, as well as whether pretreatment or advanced treatment is required. The water quality of wastewater at the inlet and outlet is very important; it must be clarified first.

Alcoholic waste liquid not only has a high COD but also a high SS and a high color intensity; therefore, direct discharge into aerobic treatment facilities does not meet the treatment requirements. If wood-based materials are used for alcohol production, the suspended solids have little use, but they can be burned, as they possess a high calorific value ; If it is corn or sweet potatoes or the like, their suspended solids can be recovered for use as feed. Alcoholic wastewater contains a high level of suspended solids; generally, centrifuges are used for centrifugal separation, followed by anaerobic treatment and then aerobic treatment. Sometimes, additional equipment such as oxidation ponds or sand filters is required to achieve better treatment results.
