Are soft connections needed at the inlet and outlet of a cryopump? Since low-temperature pumps seen in the past had flexible connections at their inlet and outlet, it was checked whether such connections were present in the actual construction site, and the design approved it. It doesn’t feel good; pipe contraction puts stress on the pump body. The seal is damaged. Could everyone give some suggestions? Thank you all
Theoretically, both inlet and outlet designs are available; they can prevent the stress on the pump body caused by pipe contraction when cooled. However, when the outlet pressure is too high, installing flexible connections there requires high strength, and I have not encountered such high-strength solutions that are also affected by the pipe diameter
The original poster is correct; a flexible connection must be available at the inlet of the cryopump. Please communicate with the designer to make changes to the design
Low-temperature pumps should all have flexible connections; it’s incorrect if they don’t, so have the designer make the necessary adjustments!

Both the inlet and outlet of a cryopump require flexible connections, usually metal bellows. The inlet pipe must also be installed at an angle, primarily to prevent air entrainment. I’m not sure which manufacturer you use; Cryomec and Cryostar are commonly used in air separation applications. The specific installation instructions outline these requirements.
