I seek advice from experts: the strength of ammonium chloride particles is always very low when compressed. I would like to know what kind of binder can be added to increase the strength of these particles. Please advise, experts. Thank you.
It depends on the type of extrusion equipment you are using. Generally, binders cannot be added during extrusion granulation, and even if they are added, it’s of little use, as existing binders only function under certain moisture levels, which are not present in the process of extrusion granulation. We use granulators designed for potassium fertilizer production to produce ammonium chloride; however, because the particles turn out to be too hard, the production volume does not increase. It depends on the condition of your equipment.
Reply to 2# yulin1973: We produce compound fertilizers. But I heard that a small amount of ammonium chloride or sulfuric acid needs to be added when extruding potassium – is that correct? Can potassium chloride be bonded together through dry extrusion without adding any substances? I’m not sure, so I’m asking for advice.
It depends on the type of equipment used. Extrusion granulation equipment costing 200,000–300,000 per set will do, but sometimes when only 60% red potassium is used in the extrusion process, the appearance and strength of the particles are not very good; generally, other substances need to be added to enhance strength and improve appearance. I’ve heard, however, that there is a type of equipment for granulating potassium fertilizers; it seems that the main unit in such equipment consists of just two components, and the investment required is high. The imported extruded potassium fertilizers are usually produced using this kind of equipment, and the resulting particles are of very good quality. As far as I remember, there is only one such unit installed in China at the Yanhu Potash Fertilizer plant; I’m not sure how it is performing. It’s difficult to squeeze 60% red potassium into a small device worth only tens of thousands of yuan.
