Where is the guide ring generally installed on a pump? Today I saw a diagram showing that the guide ring is installed on the pump’s packing; I’m not quite sure about this. If it’s a mechanical seal, where should the guide ring be installed?
Are you referring to the pumping ring of a mechanical seal, which is used for flushing the mechanical seal and to provide pressure for the flushing fluid? It is usually installed on the shaft sleeve of the mechanical seal. If it is a guide ring, it should be installed at the inlet of the pump, in front of the first-stage impeller; its main function is to increase the inlet pressure and prevent cavitation.
Reply to 2# Sleeping Sun: This pump features a packing seal and dual impellers. In the diagram, it can be seen that this guide ring is installed on the shaft sleeve of the secondary impeller. What is the function of this guide ring?
Are there any pictures or diagrams? According to what you said, they are supposed to be used to increase the inlet pressure. I’m not sure what type of pump you have
