What impact will it have on normal regulation if the flow direction of the control valve is reversed?

We reversed the flow direction of the reflux control valve in the distillation column of our reprocessing unit, and it has not been adjusted to date. During normal operation, no abnormalities were observed, but it gets stuck whenever it reaches a certain fixed opening degree; increasing the opening by one or two more degrees doesn’t help either. What’s going on?
It should be a control valve of the globe valve type, right? In practical use, it should have little impact; when installed backwards, simply more force is required to open it, while less force is needed to close it
Although I don’t have much experience, I’ll still try to answer actively to encourage myself. . Books generally state that installing a control valve in reverse can easily damage it. I’m not sure if this explanation is satisfactory
