Which discipline should determine the pipe wall thickness? How to determine it?
This is how things are in our institute; it might be useful as a reference for you! Generally, it is the materials engineering department that determines the wall thickness and material of the pipes, and a pipe grade table is prepared, which includes pipes, valves, fittings, etc. You can take a look at Chapter 6, Pipe Grade Table, in Book 2 of the installation manual. If you want to calculate it yourself, per national standards, refer to page P13 of Book 2 (4th edition) of the installation manual. For American standards, it is the design pressure for pipe fittings as specified in Part 2 of ASME 31.3. Hope this helps you
