Stagnation pressure: There is a certain stagnation pressure at any point within a stationary fluid. At any point within a flowing fluid, there is also a certain static pressure. If a hole is made in a pipe with liquid flowing inside it and connected to a vertical glass tube, the liquid will rise inside the glass tube; the height to which the liquid rises represents the static pressure of the flowing fluid at that cross-section. When a flowing fluid passes through a certain cross-section, since the fluid at that point has a certain pressure, work must be done on the fluid to overcome this pressure in order to push it into the system. Therefore, fluid passing through a certain cross-section can enter the system only if it carries energy equivalent to the required work. This form of energy possessed by a fluid is known as static pressure energy or flow work. Therefore, the static pressure energy of a pump after it has started operating remains the same, whether the pump is in operation or not.
