A bypass valve in the copper melt flow of the regeneration system in the copper washing section for ammonia synthesis

When looking at the process flow diagram just now, I noticed that in the copper bath recycling system’s copper liquid flow path, there is a bypass valve between the inlet at the upper section of the reflux tower and the inlet to the reduction heater. I would like to ask fellow experts what the function of this valve is? When should it be used?
When the copper ratio is low, this bypass line is activated to increase the copper ratio; however, the reduced amount of molten copper entering the reflux tower leads to increased ammonia loss
