Workshop No. 1 in our company was designed by the design institute as an explosion-proof area. However, this workshop has an open-frame structure, and the motors used for the water pumps are non-explosion-proof. When communicating with the design institute at that time, they said it wasn’t necessary to use explosion-proof motors. Yet, the motors of all the material pumps are explosion-proof. The water pumps and material pumps are located next to each other, only about one meter apart. Is this reasonable? What are the dangers of not using explosion-proof motors? Please be more specific in your answers, and don’t just refer to the regulations

Moreover, there is air around, which contains oxygen; therefore, any ignition source can lead to an explosion. Ignition sources generally include electrical sparks, mechanical sparks, static electricity, and so on. If the electrical equipment in this area is not designed to be explosion-proof, it will create ignition sources. Designers may think it is related to the materials, but it mainly depends on the surrounding area and the overall explosion protection classification.
An explosion-proof motor is a type of motor used in flammable and explosive environments, and it does not generate electric sparks during operation. Since it is an explosion-proof workshop, it is possible for flammable and explosive gases or vapors to accumulate there. If any electric motor generates sparks, this could lead to a fire or explosion; therefore, electric motors used in this workshop must be explosion-proof as required by regulations.

The company in question can refer to the petrochemical regulations to determine whether a workshop is classified as an explosion-proof workshop. If it is, then all equipment and facilities within that workshop must be arranged in accordance with explosion-proof requirements; otherwise, some equipment will be explosion-proof while others will not, which would result in a situation where \"100-1=0\"!
