In the process of recovering sulfur using the Claus method, where is the wastewater from the boiler and sulfur condenser directed in everyone’s system? There is a design in place with a total waste discharge amount of around 600 kg/h. In the overall layout, the sulfur recovery unit and the boiler room are located at some distance from each other. Are there any other solutions besides sending the wastewater back to the boiler room?
This water can be used as make-up water for circulating water or as recovered condensate.

Examine the specific design of the boiler in the sulfur plant. Boilers that produce medium-pressure steam can have their exhaust steam fed into a sulfur cooler to be used as condensate feedwater. There are two other options: all the condensate from the equipment can be collected together and sent to a low-pressure flash tank. The vapor generated at the top of the tank is connected to the low-pressure steam network, while the condensate at the bottom can either be mixed with circulating water for cooling before being fed into the circulating water network, or it can be pumped to a condensate recovery unit.
Previously, we used to send wastewater to external sewage treatment plants; later it was modified to a condensate system, but further modifications were not possible as the backup pressure was too high.
