The square box furnace used in our factory’s reaction process has two valves in front of both the main burner and the pilot light, used to control their flow rate – one gate valve and one globe valve connected in series. Why are both a gate valve and a globe valve needed? Are there any particular considerations?
Under normal circumstances, the stop valve is kept fully open, and the size of the corresponding burner is adjusted using a manual valve. The use of two valves is intended to prevent gas leaks into the furnace, which could pose safety hazards!
A gate valve is used to shut off flow, while a stop valve is placed downstream in the pipeline to regulate it.

Everything mentioned is basically correct; generally, there is a gate valve or ball valve before the process flow, used to cut off the fuel in case of an accident or when the furnace is shut down, and there is a globe valve afterward, used to regulate the pressure of the fuel entering the furnace so that the flame can burn properly.
Do any experts have any academic information regarding the working principle of the eternal light?
