The required thickness of the insulation layer shall be determined in accordance with the relevant technical specifications. However, there is a question: if the pipe requires 110 mm of insulation, and a single layer of rock wool provides 55 mm of insulation, then two layers would be needed. But is it necessary to take into account factors such as the compressibility of rock wool? In other words, does the insulation material need to be more than two layers thick in order to meet the insulation thickness requirements for the pipes? Thank you!
Insulation materials also have requirements regarding bulk density. At present, many contractors involved in insulation work or suppliers of insulation materials in China pay little attention to the bulk density, a key technical parameter for insulation (cold protection) materials. They believe that it isn’t a big problem if an insulation material is not produced or installed in accordance with the requirements regarding bulk density; from the perspective of insulation efficiency, products with low bulk density have no insulation effect at all.
Smaller pipes use pipe sleeves, while larger ones need to be wrapped on-site. For two layers, it’s important to manage the layer relationship properly to avoid any gaps; after that, they should be secured before applying the outer protective layer.
