Manual operation frequency of boiler safety valve

As I recall, the steam boiler required manual emptying of the safety valve once a day in order to verify that it functioned properly. However, when our broken valve was taken to the boiler inspection facility for testing, the engineers there said it needed to be emptied once a week. Could the person who posted this question tell us exactly how often it should be emptied manually? Please advise.
