Today I watched a video titled “Operator of Catalytic Cracking Units,” which said that non-purified air can be used as a substitute when purified air is not available. However, non-purified air contains a high amount of water and impurities. Is it really possible to use it?
Temporary relief is useful, but it has consequences; as you said, certain parts of the gauge are extremely delicate, and if impurities get in, the gauge becomes unusable. That’s why ordinary people don’t allow unfiltered air to get in, while nitrogen is fine.
It can be used as a temporary solution, but when allowing air to pass through, be careful to cut off the unpurified air at the unpurified air tank.
It cannot be used for long periods of time; it is only used in emergency situations. To deal with unexpected events, we have installed nitrogen lines connected to the purification air system, and this approach works very well
It can be used; the main difference between purified air and unpurified air lies solely in the water content. Using cable assemblies is advantageous for emergency situations. It's better to have an adequate supply of nitrogen.
Reply to 1# sky5778416: Strictly speaking, once the purified air supply is stopped, it cannot be replaced with unpurified air, as unpurified air contains water and impurities; using it for an extended period can cause control instruments to malfunction, posing risks to production. This issue is particularly severe in winter. Given the extremely severe situation regarding work safety across the country, I recommend against substitution.
It is okay to use it as a substitute for the purification air for a short period in summer, but in winter, using it as a substitute for the purification air can easily lead to freezing and blockage of the instrument wires, resulting in malfunctions of the control valves and instruments
Generally, when non-purified air supply is interrupted, nitrogen is used as a substitute. Using non-purified air poses certain risks; if water in it clogs the pneumatic actuators of the control valves, it can easily lead to accidents due to the valves being opened or closed completely.

In the event of a loss of instrument air, unpurified air can be used as a short-term substitute in the absence of nitrogen. The air storage tanks used for various instruments should have enhanced drainage systems; important instruments require regular inspection and drainage to prevent accidents.
Short-term emergency use is acceptable, but due to the presence of water vapor and impurities, precision pneumatic instruments should be avoided. The purified air and the unpurified air used in our facility are essentially both purified air; both types enter their respective pipelines after passing through dust removal, drying, and purification processes following emergence from the air compressor. The unpurified air is mainly used for soot blowing in heating furnaces and in pneumatic diaphragm pumps, among other applications.
