Heat exchanger selection issue

When working on the design, the teacher would give me the final drawings directly and have me carry out the process and mechanical design based on the heat exchangers shown in those drawings; there was no requirement for me to make any selections regarding component types. I think component selection is the most fundamental aspect. I’ve also heard of software for selecting heat exchangers, and I was wondering: if I go into the design industry in the future, will I use such software for selection purposes? There are still dedicated people responsible for selecting the appropriate options, and once those are chosen, they are handed over to designers for further development.
Designers won’t be able to select the appropriate options; those responsible for selection must be familiar with design.
As for the selection, when designing it is necessary to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of various types. As for which type to actually use, the process engineers will determine this based on the requirements – whether it should be of the U-type, with fixed tube sheets, or floating head design, etc.
