Which companies using natural gas for hydrogen production have a decarburization system in their medium-pressure gas processing units? I’ve read some information suggesting that the installation of such a system increases costs; it seems that not having a decarburization system is the standard design. However, without it, a significant amount of H2 is lost in the PSA exhaust gases. Does anyone know at what scale it becomes appropriate to install a decarburization system?
Jiangsu Feixiang Chemical seems to have a hydrogen production facility using decarburization, with a capacity of around 6,000 cubic meters; however, it doesn’t seem to be in operation

You mentioned 6,000 cubic meters, but in the post at http://bbs.hcbbs.com/viewthread.php?tid=753130&highlight=%CC%EC%C8%BB%C6%F8%D6%C6%C7%E2, it’s only 3,000 cubic meters and decarburization has already occurred there. The drawing I’m looking at, which involves 30,000 cubic meters, doesn’t show any sign of decarburization. What’s going on? It seems that the larger the volume, the less decarburization occurs, while smaller volumes show more decarburization. Is this some kind of confusion?
Jiangsu Feixiang produces hydrogen using 3,000 cubic meters of natural gas! It was designed with decarburization, so it keeps running; otherwise, the pressure swing adsorption process would reach its saturation point very quickly!
I’ve forgotten exactly how large it was; it might have been 3,000 cubic meters. However, it wasn’t put into operation. I stayed there for over a month – it was operating normally when I arrived, then it stopped for 10 days for maintenance before resuming operation. During that entire time, the decarburization process wasn’t initiated. It seems that it’s not just a matter of energy consumption; it also involves issues with the supplier, as the required manufacturer couldn’t be found, so the project was left on hold. But now that a buyer has been found, it should definitely be put into operation

Whether to proceed with decarburization depends on whether there is demand for carbon dioxide in downstream applications. Moreover, a good PSA system can achieve a recovery rate of 90%, and by properly controlling the adsorption time, penetration problems can be avoided. Hydrogen loss occurs as a result of combustion during conversion, but it’s not a major issue.
In our facility with a capacity of 30,000 square meters, the purity of CO2 in the decarbonized exhaust gases is over 98%.
