Why is an air cooler installed, and then a water cooler as well?

This post was last edited by lijianhuai on 2011-12-21 09:58. I would like to know why an air cooler is installed in a reforming unit, and why a water cooler is also used; why can’t it be entirely air-cooled or entirely water-cooled.
Just look at your name – Karamay is short of water, and air cooling is relatively more water-efficient; however, its cooling effect isn’t sufficient to reach the desired temperature for the distillate oil!
It’s of course the complementary disadvantages between the volume constraints of air cooling and the cooling efficiency of water cooling: the former offers good cooling performance but requires high energy consumption, has a large size, and leads to greater equipment wear and tear, while the latter is compact in size but has slightly poorer cooling efficiency
Ultra-low pressure continuous reforming operates at low pressures; if water from a cooler leaks into the reaction system, it would be catastrophic for the reforming catalyst. Therefore, modern design of such reaction systems generally does not include coolers.
