There are many popular 3D software programs these days, such as PDS and PDMS. Which 3D software programs do you people use? Please, fellow sailors, have in-depth discussions about its advantages and disadvantages.
What are the advantages of PDMS over other piping software? I haven’t used any others
Currently, PDMS is mainly used, with PDS used occasionally. It’s likely that PDMS is used more frequently because it’s more familiar to people, while PDS is used less; personally, I find PDMS easier to work with. The PDMS software is highly functional; it enables users to carry out various tasks step by step – starting from device modeling and civil structure modeling, as well as pipeline modeling (which includes the ability to model various instruments and control valve assemblies, and to adjust their parameters to reflect the actual instruments and valves that will be used in practice). It also allows for the design and modeling of pipeline supports, collision detection of pipelines, and finally the generation of drawings, including floor plans and single-line diagrams. Since PDS is used less frequently, colleagues who use it more often say that when used properly, it is faster and more flexible than PDMS. Personally, I find it not very convenient to use PDS; errors tend to occur during piping work with this software, especially with pipelines that are modified repeatedly, as many elements may remain unremoved and lead to numerous error messages. Additionally, PDS allows for flexible drawing creation, making modifications quite easy (much like CAD), which means it’s easy to fabricate plans using PDS! The above are just my personal opinions for reference only! I hope this won’t mislead anyone; as for which software is more user-friendly, it depends on individual preferences!
