The reaction equation is quite simple; the key factor is whether there is an excess of sodium sulfite. If there isn’t an excess, the equation is: Na2SO3 + HCl = NaCl + NaHSO3——————①. If sodium sulfite is in excess, then the equation becomes: Na2SO3 + HCl = 2NaCl + H2O + SO2————②. As for the reaction between sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid, it’s not necessary to write it down – that’s something covered in junior high school chemistry. . . Do not write the two reaction equations together; write them separately! Based on your process, it seems that alkali solution is used to wash away HCl from the exhaust gases; in that case, there should be an excess of caustic soda and sodium sulfite. Moreover, SO2 released into the air has an unpleasant odor, so it’s likely that there is an excess of sodium sulfite, with sodium bisulfate present in the solution as well. Reaction 1 is taking place in the solution.
