One of the 2000L glass-lined reactors used in our production is heated by a jacket water bath; that is, a certain amount of water is stored in the jacket, and steam is used to heat this water from the top, with the water then serving to heat the contents inside the reactor. When heating, there is a loud noise inside, along with vibrations – these are the sounds and forces produced by steam hitting the water. I’m not sure if any units use this heating method; what are its disadvantages and potential safety risks?
Additional note: The direction of the steam in the jacket is from the bottom in and out from the top.
This is called a pneumatic hammer. The correct approach is to install a hot water tank outside the reactor, use steam to heat the water, and then pump it into the jacket of the reaction reactor for circulation.
Steam should enter from above and exit from below; otherwise, air hammer is likely to occur. As per your request, it seems necessary to add a heat exchanger; heating is achieved using steam in a closed-loop cycle.
Water hammer is caused by a large temperature difference; one could consider reducing the steam pressure or decreasing the amount of water used. The safety hazard is that this situation over time will cause the pipelines to leak... It is recommended to resolve this issue as soon as possible
