I’ve looked into some literature, and there are very few applications of this kind in China; Aspen Plus is mainly used for such purposes. Abroad, HYSYS is employed for these tasks, but even in those cases it’s used for simulating CO2 absorption in power plants or the gasification process in IGCC systems. My question is: can HYSYS be used for the overall optimization of power plant operations, such as simulating the thermal systems, rather than just focusing on CO2 simulation? Can it replace Aspen Plus?
HYSYS is also a tool, just like Plus; it can be said that for power plants, using the Plus tool is better. However, if you are very proficient in using HYSYS, you can still carry out simulations! It’s just that sometimes you might need to write some code or something by yourself!

I heard about HYSYS for power plant simulation for the first time!
I’m not sure which stage of the power plant you want to simulate. By that stage, I mean whether it’s necessary to simulate everything from connecting the generator, closing the circuit breaker, to connecting it to the grid If it’s not necessary, it’s fine to simulate only the steam generation process and the turbine section. If we want to simulate everything later on, then, as Lele said, we’ll need to put in some effort

What I want to simulate is the thermal system of a power plant, as I need to carry out simulations of oxygen-enriched combustion; I also need to simulate oxygen production through air separation as well as CO2 compression. So far, I have found literature on CO2 compression, but hardly any on thermal systems. Generators and the power grid are not necessary to consider for now

Reply to 8# sywcd8521: There’s no problem at all. I’m not sure if you’re doing steady-state or dynamic simulation; steady-state simulation is much simpler. For dynamic simulation, you need to pay a bit more attention to the heat exchangers in the high and low pressure heaters as well as in the air separation unit.
