I noticed that some of our motor wires are connected with just one wire, while others need two wires. I’m not sure why this is the case ?
Low-voltage motors with a motor frame size of 315 or higher require a relatively large current, and therefore usually come equipped with two power inlet ports. If a single-entry connection is still used and one cable is employed, the cable has to be made very thick, which is not conducive to wiring work and similar tasks. Using two cables allows for relatively thinner ones, which facilitates wiring and connection.

Electrical power = voltage * current; for motors with higher power, the current must be higher when the voltage remains constant. Therefore, in many industrial and mining enterprises, for motors with a power of 160 KW or more, it is advisable to use motors with a voltage of 6000 V or higher, in order to reduce the current. With high current, the cross-sectional area of the wire required must be large; if the cross-sectional area is not sufficient, the temperature will rise, and in severe cases this can lead to accidents such as cable fires. Using two cables is intended to connect two wires to each terminal, so that the cross-sectional area becomes twice that of a single cable.
