In recent years, heat pump technology has received increasing attention due to the comparison between coal prices and electricity costs in China. Zhongyan Jintan Salt Chemicals has launched a 1 million tons per year MVR salt production project, which is now operational. It seems that MVR-based salt production will become increasingly popular, but domestic MVR technology is still underdeveloped, especially in terms of compressor technology. In 1989, a MVR salt production system was installed in Zigong; however, it stopped working after operating for a while due to problems with the compressors. Regarding MVR technology, I’m interested to hear everyone’s opinions or key technical insights – feel free to discuss. # + + hcbbs
We have also installed 1 million tons of MVR salt-calcium co-production capacity, and future new projects as well as technical upgrades will primarily utilize MVR as well. After all, in principle, MVR has an absolute advantage over multi-effect evaporation.
Reply to 2# Jinling Xifeng Shouma: Do you mind revealing the name of your company? We have many projects that also need to use MVR. If it’s convenient for you, please let me know which company is responsible for the design and which manufacturer produced the compressors – I assume it’s mostly foreign brands
Today, the most advanced heat pump systems are used for salt production. MVR centrifugal steam compressors offer high economic efficiency, while there are many options available for SEP compressors used in this process
Hello, may I ask which manufacturer’s MVR you are using?

The MVR evaporation unit has the following advantages: stable quality of the product brine, no need for cooling water, and high-quality condensate; It features low steam energy consumption and high energy efficiency; according to thermodynamic calculations, the thermal efficiency of an MVR evaporator is 27 times that of a single-effect flash system, or 7 times that of a four-effect flash system ; Fully automatic control operation; simple to use, wide range of operational control, high reliability, and fast load adjustment ; The equipment is compact in size, with a simple design that saves space ; The key components are made of high-quality titanium alloys, ensuring a service life of 30 years or more ; The equipment is easy to maintain, and staff can access all areas that require cleaning and maintenance. Especially in terms of energy consumption, the operational cost advantage of the MVR evaporation concentration system over the multi-effect evaporation concentration system is quite significant. In China, MVR technology manufacturers are merely agents; the key technologies and equipment still need to be imported
I have also been studying MVR technology for 2 or 3 years. Currently, the leading research institution in China in this field is Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, while its industrial applications are mainly in vacuum salt production and the concentration of wastewater from pharmaceutical companies.
At present, in China, knowledge of MVR technology is limited to the realm of steam compression; in fact, MVR is merely an auxiliary energy system for such projects. For many other projects, traditional technical knowledge regarding product evaporators, crystallizers, and crystallization conditions must also be taken into account. As a result, MVR technology in China has reached a dead end. Companies that have used MVR can also see that this technology is actually not complicated; what’s key is whether it can be effectively integrated into the overall project.
I have a question: is the amount of secondary steam the same as the amount that is compressed and used as heating steam? As the temperature rises, the latent heat of vaporization of water vapor is lower; as a result, even when feeding at the boiling point, the heat generated by the condensation of steam after heating is not sufficient to produce an equal amount of secondary steam The system can no longer maintain balance. I’ve been puzzled for a long time; I seek guidance from experts.
