Previously, the company welded ordinary carbon steel and 316 stainless steel using TIG welding; we have never used Hastelloy C material. I’m not familiar with it – shame on me! If possible, what precautions should be taken? Can the original welder be used? Urgent!
The weld can be formed by conventional grooved welding; for both methods, Hastelloy C-276 wire should be used as the welding material (such welding materials are available on the market; if not, wire with low carbon, high nickel, and titanium content can be used instead). Before welding the prepared groove, it is advisable to grind and preheat it. Gas shielded welding should be used, and the arc intensity should be adjusted according to the thickness of the workpiece in order to minimize the heat-affected zone. During welding, gas protection should be maintained for more than 3 seconds. It is advisable to perform solution treatment on the welded workpiece

For welding rods, ordinary arc welding will suffice; for welding wires, TIG welding is required. The focus isn’t on the welding method; it’s on the welding material – as long as you have the appropriate one. Solution treatment refers to a heat treatment process in which the alloy is heated to its high-temperature single-phase region and held there at a constant temperature, allowing the excess phases to dissolve fully into the solid solution; thereafter, it is cooled rapidly to obtain a supersaturated solid solution. Your welded parts shouldn’t be very large, right? Find an environment with a relatively high temperature for welding. After welding, use electric heating for drying, and then allow it to cool down slowly. Alternatively, after welding, wrap it quickly with insulating material, then apply a small amount of heat using gas welding to allow it to cool down slowly. If the temperature drops too quickly, delayed cracks will occur.
