What type of thread is used for the bolts on the drive components of reciprocating compressors?
For the mass production of external threads, thread rolling and thread drawing are commonly used. Thread rolling is done using rollers (it is commonly used for processing hollow tubes), while thread cutting is carried out with thread-cutting tools; relatively speaking, the precision of the threads produced by this method is higher. Both thread rolling and thread extrusion produce threads through compression and rolling; the surfaces with such threads feature high smoothness, high hardness, high precision of the threads, good corrosion resistance, and low friction. Cutting threads is a material-removal machining method that cannot meet the requirements imposed by the alternating stresses in compressors; therefore, it is not possible to machine the screws on compressors using a lathe on one’s own.
