When considering whether to use a reaction-type or impulse-type turbine to drive a 12,000 KW compressor, what factors should be taken into account? How should a decision be made? In my opinion: 1. Considering the steam source, if steam is supplied directly from a boiler, then a reaction type should be considered to improve steam efficiency; if it is waste heat steam, an impulse type can be considered. 2. Is this unit large-scale or small-scale? If it is small in size, an impulse type should be considered; if it is not small, a reaction type should be considered. 3. In terms of investment costs, the impulse type is cheaper. 4. A hybrid type can also be considered. For example, with a reactivity of 0.5, the definition of being reactive or impulsive is based on this value of 0.5 as a threshold; however, no one has specified what category 0.5 falls into. Does what I say make sense? I’m a beginner in this area; I hope those who are more experienced can give me some guidance. Is there anything else missing?
In my opinion, many turbines these days are of the impulse-reaction type, as they combine the advantages of both impulse and reaction turbines. As for the steam quality, it is necessary to take into account the overall steam requirements of the plant; choosing a steam quality that is cost-effective while still enabling the desired power output is important. Additionally, whether to opt for full condensation, backpressure, extraction condensation, or extraction-backpressure depends on the overall balance of your company’s operations, as well as whether there are other processes that require a portion of the steam to be used for their needs, and so on
