Why are the ceramic balls smaller at the top and larger at the bottom in the converter, and what is their purpose???

The upper area is not a region with intense reactions; therefore, the gas flow rate should be reduced to increase the reaction time of the gas on the catalyst surface. This is precisely because the gaps between the small ceramic balls are small. After the reaction below is complete, large porcelain balls are placed to reduce resistance (relatively speaking). Methanol production by oxygen-enriched combustion of coke oven gas. Fluids rise upward and fluids descend downward. Ceramic balls are chosen because they are high-temperature refractory materials. The reason for the smaller size at the top and larger size at the bottom is that the upper part contains air, while the lower part contains liquid. That’s all there is to it. As for the rest, you guys can figure it out yourselves.
