The New Year is approaching; should I give a gift to my boss?

Our leader is a woman; she’s really nice and not the type who is driven by greed for profit. To be honest, I’m too embarrassed to give her a gift, but I’m not the only one who just started working here. Friends all say that an individual’s integrity cannot overcome societal trends. No one dislikes gifts. If you don’t do this, you’ll be seen by your boss as having lost out to the other newly established ones. Although the leader may not say it out loud, they will still pay extra attention to those who give gifts in their hearts. What do you all think we should do?
That’s just how society is these days. I was trying to get a driver’s license recently as well – if you don’t give a gift, you can’t get it; but once you give a gift, you pass and get your driver’s license!

It’s good to give some gifts, as the ancients said； Too many gifts won’t offend anyone
Personal opinion, for reference only: Those in technical fields would only give gifts to their bosses if they had something to gain from it. A good leader can tell which colleagues are truly working hard for him, and which ones only talk without taking action. . No matter what kind of person they are, they have their value; it depends on one’s personality and the path they choose. I know that some people might criticize me; those who rise to positions in their own companies by giving gifts won’t gain the support of most people. Things are different in society; if it’s appropriate to give something, then give it.
