Questions about matching majors to careers

As the saying goes, women fear marrying the wrong man, while men fear choosing the wrong career. I often hear people talk about it being important to choose a career that matches one’s major; I’m a student in chemical engineering and technology – so what are some suitable jobs for me? When looking for a job, should one try to find one that is closely related to their field of expertise? For example, would a job at Cheng Shin Tire be considered such a job? Is it true that the more aligned they are, the better? Confused, please advise!
University only teaches you the methods of learning; in the workplace, you learn while doing. Generally, those in science and engineering can do work related to the humanities, while those in the humanities rarely do work related to science and engineering; that’s all.
