Help: Can the noise reduction levels of silencers be combined?

I’m not sure whether the noise reduction levels of multiple silencers can be added together; could everyone please help? If it can be combined, is it simply added together?
Of course not. Silencers also have a range of effective application – for example, if the noise level is 120 dB and a silencer reduces it to 90 dB, that’s a reduction of 30 dB. So if another silencer is used, wouldn’t the level be reduced to 60 dB? If the muffler’s specifications state that it can reduce noise to below 90, then installing one muffler or two or three of them will yield similar results, all keeping the noise level below 90. It’s impossible to reduce the noise level to 60.
