Standard GB 2008-1628 does not specify this explicitly, but generally, the iodine content in high-quality acetic acid is less than 10 ppm. For acetic acid that has undergone special treatment (i.e., deiodinated acetic acid), the iodine content is less than 20 ppb – a standard that is generally achievable internationally. It should be noted that the iodine content referred to here is the total iodine content, including both organic and inorganic iodine. Conventional analysis methods can only detect the amount of iodide ions, not the amount of organic iodides; therefore, even if the iodide content is low, it does not necessarily mean that the total iodine content is low as well. The common removal method, namely ion exchange, can only remove iodide ions. If the side reactions are minimal and the amount of by-products is low, the required level of 20 ppb can be achieved after simple removal.
