Color of Texaco gasifier ash

When normally observing slag, there is always an item to check its color; it can be yellow sometimes, green at other times, and black as well. Could an expert help explain what factors cause color differences like these? What is the normal color of ash? If other colors appear, it can indicate where there are problems; I hope for more specific details.
Ash (1): The mineral residue left after combustible materials such as coal have burned completely (2); a mixture of furnace ash and lime. Under normal conditions, the ash remaining after combustion consists of dark gray ash, carbon residue from black water, as well as transparent crystals; it is generally black in color. Depending on the condition of the furnace, the transparent crystals sometimes appear in a granular, normal form, while at other times they take on the appearance of glass fibers or spongy structures (indicating that the furnace is damaged). Sometimes it is colorless (or light yellow); other times it is green (due to chromium in the refractory bricks). When it is green, it indicates that the refractory bricks have failed.
