What are the main raw materials used for ammonia synthesis nowadays? What are the approximate proportions of coal, natural gas, and naphtha?
In China, the proportion of synthetic ammonia produced from coal as a raw material is increasing steadily. After all, China is a country that lacks oil and natural gas but is rich in coal. With international prices for oil and natural gas rising, those large chemical plants that rely on natural gas and heavy oil as raw materials are finding it increasingly difficult to operate; some of them have even begun to change their raw material sources by using coal instead. Currently, most of the newly built large-scale ammonia synthesis plants are located in areas rich in coal resources such as Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Ningxia, and Shaanxi (Yulin, Shenmu).
