Long-tube air respirators and back-mounted air respirators are identical in terms of the mask and other components (the brand I use is even the same as that used for back-mounted respirators); the only difference is that one is powered directly by a gas cylinder, while the other relies on a gas cylinder set to supply air to the mask through a long tube. Therefore, there are no differences in terms of usage requirements. Through practical experience, long-tube air respirators can be used in the following situations: 1. When it is necessary to remain in an environment with toxic or harmful gases, or in a confined space where suffocation could occur, for an extended period of time, as back-mounted air respirators, due to the limited volume of their gas cylinders, can only be used for a short time. 2. The working space is narrow and limited; due to the direct connection of the air supply pipeline to the mask, long-tube SCBA is more popular among operators when working in confined spaces. Also, because long-tube air respirators are more convenient and easier to use, maintenance workers who work at relatively fixed locations on-site prefer to wear them; only those who need to move around frequently, those working in emergency situations, or those carrying out short-term tasks on-site have to use back-mounted air respirators. Note: Since users of long-tube SCBA often find it difficult to keep track of both the cylinder pressure and the condition of the air tubes, it is even more important for supervisors to pay close attention and ensure proper monitoring.
Reply to 1# zhhx1898: Our long-tube respirators use the same mask as SCBAs; the air supply source is optional. When using a long-tube respirator, there must be an air supply facility on site; it can be used for extended periods with minimal strain on the body ; An SCBA carries an air tank on its back; it’s bulky, has a limited usage time, and its cost is likely higher. I haven’t asked how much each tank of compressed air costs. I think it is generally used in environments where oxygen deficiency is possible; if it is certain that oxygen deficiency will not occur, a gas mask may be sufficient.
