Currently, many environmental treatment facilities are made of carbon steel coated for corrosion resistance or stainless steel. However, due to the high corrosiveness of the wastewater and gases generated in these treatment processes, these facilities suffer severe corrosion, resulting in high annual maintenance costs. We have now replaced the covers of some tanks with fiberglass material, which extends their service life; but another problem has arisen: the connection parts use bolts, and these bolts lack corrosion resistance. Additionally, under the influence of gases, the resin on the surface of the fiberglass material gradually wears away, leading to a decrease in its strength. Let’s discuss whether there are any better methods or materials.

For the glass fiber plate, a flanged edge can be considered, with the bolts placed outside the cover. Our company has used this approach for the covers of sewage sedimentation tanks
The PVC bolts mentioned on the 2nd floor could be considered, but it’s not clear whether they will meet the strength requirements; stainless steel bolts could also be an option. The fiberglass resin gradually disappeared under the action of gases; the possible reason is that the gases produced by the wastewater are highly corrosive, and the fiberglass cannot withstand such corrosion ; It could also be that the temperature of the wastewater is too high, exceeding the tolerable temperature for fiberglass. It is necessary to find the cause in order to solve it better.

It is recommended to use A4-50 or A4-70 stainless steel bolts, as this seems to result in lower costs~~~
