Previously, I was more often exposed to branch pipe types such as socklet, weldolet, and half coupling. I’m a bit confused about olet and boss. It seems to me that, in terms of both structure and purpose, olets and half couplings are very similar; could they be the same thing? It is relatively easy to distinguish between boss and weldolet: one has a flat connection end, while the other has a curved connection end. The problem is figuring out which one to choose between these two devices that perform the same function but have different structures, as well as deciding between olet, half coupling, and socklet. I hope everyone can help solve this!
It seems that not many people are paying attention to this topic these days. I still want to push this post to the top, so I’ll quote a reply I made in another post: “I’m still not entirely sure whether bosses and half couplings can be used as connection fittings for branch pipes, even though they’re used in many places these days.” Where boss is used for branch fittings, Weldolet can generally be used, while Sockolet can be used where half couplings are used. Weldolet and sockolet are likely to be good types of branch pipe connections, as they can help avoid concentrated stress. And if boss or half coupling is actually used as a branch fitting, since the connection point with the main pipe is flat, it is difficult to meet the requirement of GB-T19326, which stipulates that the gap with the main pipe should be less than 1.6 MM (unless the main pipe has a diameter of DN300 or larger). So I’m still a bit confused about these two fittings: the boss and the half coupling. Also, for half coupling construction, it seems a bit unreasonable to weld it by inserting it into the main pipe. Personally, I think it should be different options determined through calculation based on the requirements of branch pipe connections, while meeting the strength criteria. With the aforementioned connectors in use, there is no need for further hole reinforcement.
