Methanol system: 1. Control room duties: low-temperature shift, low-temperature methanol washing, centrifugal compression (syngas compressor, ammonia compressor), methanol synthesis, sulfur recovery, distillation, pressure swing adsorption. 2. On-site positions: shift site, low-temperature methanol washing site, centrifugal compression site, methanol synthesis site, sulfur recovery site, distillation site. 3. Other positions: reciprocating compression position (carbon dioxide gas), screw chiller position, tank farm position. How should the salary levels for these positions be determined? How should it be divided most reasonably?
Central control: Methanol, compression, low-temperature methanol washing – Category 1 positions; conversion, distillation, sulfur recovery – Category 2; PSA – Category 3. On-site: everything except the tank areas falls under Category 1. These classifications are determined based on the level of physical strain, the value of the position, and the degree of danger. In practice, it depends on how you arrange the tasks. When there are many people and few tasks, the price is definitely low; when there are many tasks and it’s dangerous, and few people are available, the price is definitely high. It depends on the value involved. Another approach is to not create a separate position for PSA – for such a role, just assign the lowest possible wage at the site; it would be a job meant merely to keep time passing. In many factories, no separate operator is assigned for PSA
After PSA becomes independent, reduce the staff as much as possible; then give everyone in the control room the same treatment and everyone on site the same treatment – that should work fine, right? If differences in treatment are to be made, they shouldn’t be too great. In old factories, jobs related to gasification, compression, synthesis, and boilers were generally considered one category; tasks involving purification fell into another category, while chemistry and water treatment work were classified as a third category. Currently, low-temperature methanol washing is a relatively new technology; the costs associated with it have increased, the operating pressure required is higher, and the process is more complex, which also contributes to higher costs. For sulfur recovery, it involves a small-scale unit that handles everything needed for this purpose. However, this job can be quite unstable, as it’s affected by various factors, and there are frequent shutdowns. Therefore, the salary for this position might be lower compared to other similar roles. Additionally, centrifugal compressors are now widely used, making the operation of compressor-related jobs simpler, which also allows for a slight reduction in salaries. You can consider: one treatment for the main unit: boiler, air separation, gasification, methanol. Auxiliary equipment and positions are priced as one unit: e.g., water, raw materials, testing, tank areas, filling, etc. Specialized fields such as electrical equipment and instrument maintenance are more specialized; please provide a price for them.
