Does a 4-ton hot water boiler need a water level gauge?

This post was last edited by li*ch1968 on 2012-1-17 at 18:50. Our factory has a 4-ton hot water boiler that is equipped only with a pressure gauge; I believe this poses a safety risk. I would appreciate expert advice – does a 4-ton hot water boiler require a water level gauge?
In my opinion, if it is used for heating in your factory, it isn’t necessary to install a water level gauge; the system should be circulated first before starting up to ensure that the water level is full. Putting it another way, there’s no harm in installing it.
The hot water boilers I’ve seen come with water level gauges as well as those without them. Personally, I think it’s beneficial to have one, as safety comes first; moreover, the cost isn’t high – a water level gauge costs only a few hundred yuan
Hot water boilers are designed to operate at full water level when they leave the factory. Why would you need to install anything else? The boiler has a low-water level protection mechanism, and in case that fails, there’s also an over-temperature protection system. So it’s not necessary.
A water level gauge needs a vapor-water interface in order to function. Hot water boilers generally operate at full water level or under pressure, and they are equipped with protection mechanisms against low water levels and low pressure; therefore, a water level gauge is not necessary.
Hot water boilers operate with the tank filled to capacity, so a water level gauge is unnecessary.
There is no requirement to install a water level gauge in hot water boilers; generally, those equipped with a water level gauge are used only during the boiler’s heating process, and it isn’t necessary to have one at other times.
