I have a gentle question: in practical applications, in what manner are the Hart output and FF output delivered? What I mean is, when using Hart and FF transmitters, what form of output information can the user see in the DCS? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each, and under what conditions is it better to use one over the other?
For HART protocol instruments, is there a 1-to-1 communication and connection between the field device and the DCS card, or is it an analog signal superimposed on the HART signal? The FF bus uses twisted pair wiring; it enables a single base module at the field level to connect to no more than 16 field instruments via one twisted pair, and it represents a digital form of communication. As for the display within the DCS, that is definitely handled by software, so it’s all digital. There are no real advantages or disadvantages to speak of; FF requires more investment, but it may set trends and fashions. Personally, I still prefer to use traditional DCS.
FF can save a significant amount on installation costs and materials, which is quite substantial for projects abroad.
