What are some excellent designs available in the fly ash system of Section 15 in coal chemical processing that can increase the service life of ball valves? Our ball valves often get stuck due to the accumulation of coal ash.
I’m not very familiar with the coal powder process, so I’d like to ask gently: for solid media, is the sealing performance of ball valves important? Why not use a plug valve?
In fly ash systems, ball valves are subject to severe erosion by the medium flowing through them. Once a leak occurs inside such valves after they are closed, it can lead to blockage of the valve in a short time. In cases of severe internal leakage, it can also cause erosion and wear of both the valve ball and the valve seat. Therefore, a blocked valve is definitely caused by internal leakage. Metal hard-sealed ball valves rely on a metal-to-metal seal, which makes it difficult to ensure low leakage levels. Leakage can only be controlled through design aspects such as the use of valve seats with sealing compensation, or by increasing the hardness of the internal components (through hardening treatments to create a difference in hardness between the ball and the seat). As friction occurs and the elastic compensation mechanism fails, leakage is inevitable sooner or later; the difference lies merely in how long domestic or imported valves can resist this issue.

A slag guiding structure (slag guiding groove) is fabricated in the valve body structure behind the valve seat; a large pressure difference is generated at the moment the valve is opened or closed, which helps to remove any accumulated ash. Additionally, purging is employed (commonly used in the petrochemical industry).
Expanding butterfly valves could also be considered: they provide excellent sealing for both ash and solid particles, and have a long service life; Globe valves (knife valves) could also be considered
However, it seems that dome valves currently have a relatively high share in fly ash systems
