Packed tower – Observation through the middle sight glass revealed that liquid flowed in lines from the liquid collector straight down to the lower layer of packing; and it wasn’t just one set of such streams, but multiple sets. Why? (The material aggregates.)

There must be a distributor between the liquid collector and the packing as well; after the liquid gathers in the collector, it is either directed to the distributor below through downcomers, or it flows to the distributor below through the numerous sieve holes in the collection channels. As you said, there is liquid flowing out in lines and dripping straight down. If the design is correct, then the distributor on the packing should be a disc-type distributor; but since it’s disc-type, the collector above it can be omitted. It is also possible that the lower part consists of a slot distributor, but the diameter of the guide tubes or the gap at the bottom is too small, resulting in poor flow of the liquid; as a consequence, the liquid flows down from other areas of the collector. It is recommended to reduce the load and see what changes occur. Specifically, it is necessary to analyze the drawings of the distributor and collector. There are no specific drawings; it’s all just a rough guess.
What was it like before? What impact does it have on the operations or the product? As mentioned above, this could be normal....
Adjust the operation of the tower by reducing the feed rate or the tower’s circulation rate; observe the situation before making a decision
