This post was last edited by Daydreaming Scholar on 2012-2-10 08:01. The information found online is: 0.1 MPa = 1.0 kg/cm2. kg/cm2A (absolute pressure) = kg/cm2G (gauge pressure) + 0.1. So, whether the values obtained from the conversion between MPA and kilogram-force represent absolute pressure or gauge pressure – please explain! Mine are pipeline drawings; the design pressure is 0.164 MPa, the operating pressure ranges from -0.1 to 0.2 MPa, and the hydrostatic test pressure is 0.2 MPa.
This post was last edited by jia717 on 2012-2-9 at 16:33. Before the conversion, MPA and kilopounds force represented gauge pressure; after the conversion, it remains gauge pressure. Before the conversion, it was absolute pressure; after the conversion, it becomes absolute pressure as well
It remains the same before and after conversion; generally, gauge pressure is indicated on drawings
What is the pressure after converting the design pressure and operating pressure in those pipe drawings? What about after the conversion of the hydrostatic test pressure? Still a bit confused? For the MPA value given in the drawings, how can I tell whether it is gauge pressure or absolute pressure?
Unless otherwise specified, it is generally gauge pressure
Are there any standard specifications for this? Or for reference?

The second formula is incorrect; it should be an addition of 1. If the unit is MPa, then it should be an addition of 0.1
