Why does hydrogenated refined diesel turn orange-red when heated for distillation analysis?
We caught a ride; when sampling our diesel hydrotreating unit, we found that the color of the refined diesel was similar to that of brown sugar water. The color intensity, as determined by testing, was 3.0. The raw materials used were coke blend along with a small amount of normal paraffin and catalysts. We would appreciate it if everyone could analyze various possible reasons for this
Diesel hydrorefining is primarily aimed at desulfurization, denitration, deoxygenation, demetallization, and the saturation of unsaturated hydrocarbons. The denitration process requires more stringent conditions and proceeds at a slower rate, while nitrogen-containing compounds are the main cause of diesel discoloration. Therefore, if the hydrogenation intensity is insufficient and the hydrogenation is not thorough, the hydrogenated diesel will have a darker color and lower stability. However, in the usual sales process, 15 days to a month is not a big issue, so the market can accept it.
It’s normal for it to have an orange juice color; we initially produced versions in blue-green as well. All that matters is whether it’s transparent and whether its color changes over time. After that, it will still be necessary to reach an agreement with Tsugami
The color change during distillation is mainly caused by the poor oxidation stability of diesel. It’s best to conduct an aging test; increasing the reaction pressure and temperature would help solve the issue
